Most Popular Hound Dog Breeds

During thousands of years of Middle Eastern history, dogs resembling the current Afghan have been identified.

Afghan Hound

Traditionally treasured by rabbit hunters, Bassets possess one of the keenest noses in the canine kingdom, second only to the Bloodhound in terms of precision and aptitude.

Basset Hound

The noble Bloodhound's sense of scent is unmatched in the animal kingdom. 


These enormously powerful canines were initially developed to track and hunt wolves, as their name suggests. 

Irish wolfhound 

The Basenji, along with the Afghan, is one of the oldest hound breeds; in Africa, it was renowned for its versatility and hunting prowess. 


Originating as hounds bred to chase lions, Rhodesian ridgebacks are another well-built, highly powerful breed.

Rhodesian Ridgeback

Beagles are renowned as fox and rabbit hunters, and they are gifted with enormous stores of stamina.


Dachshund translates to "badger dog" in German, belying the hunting heritage of these small dogs.


Whippets are little, slim dogs that rarely bark and require surprisingly little exercise, other than a few lively games of fetch per week.
