NFL notes: Jackson unlikely

start exploring

Follow your heart sometimes. Last week, Meek Mill informed us about Lamar Jackson's apparent interest in playing for the Patriots.

Kraft informed a few hangers-on about his text message from Mill during the league meetings and was asked whether it was on the record.

I spent 24 hours persuading myself that the Patriots could make Jackson their quarterback after the owner let his disclosure stand on its own.

Foxborough having one of football's most dynamic players was enticing. His rushing and throwing skills might revive the Patriots offense.

Jackson's offense had limitless potential.

They're also unlikely, and ESPN's Mike Reiss dismissed any Jackson-New England deal.

Those claims were disappointing since Jackson is the first post-Tom Brady quarterback with the ability to restore the Patriots to championship contention.

He's worth the high cost of money and draft selections. In five seasons in Baltimore, Jackson went 45-16 and gave the Ravens a chance to win every week. I'd invest in that player.

Trading two No. 1 selections and Mac Jones to Baltimore and paying Jackson $200 million looks crazy. Finding a guy like Jackson in the draft is ideal, but most fall short.

Cleveland's controversial Watson agreement has a $9 million cap hit in 2022. Seasonally unrestrictive.

According to accounts, Jackson to New England is a pipe dream, so I'll have to forget about it. It was enjoyable for a while.

When asked whether Jones will start in 2023, Belichick said Jones "has the skills to play in the NFL" a day after the season.

"Everybody will play," he remarked. "We'll play the best players."

In his article regarding Jackson not being in the Patriots plans, Reiss said that Bailey Zappe was "seeing an increase in practice reps by the end of last season."

Sneak peek

. Offseason training for the Patriots begin on April 17, with OTAs on May 22-23, May 25, May 30-31, June 2, June 5-6, and June 8-9. June 12-14 is mandatory minicamp.

Reiss also claimed that the Patriots and Titans have considered doing joint workouts in Nashville this summer, like they did before their 2019 preseason game.

Hall calls

On Thursday, the Patriots Hall of Fame committee will choose three nominees for fans to vote on.

Mike Vrabel, Logan Mankins, and Wes Welker would likely be the finalist favorites without a high-profile first-year eligible candidate.

Extra Points

I agree with Giants owner John Mara on flex scheduling late-season Thursday night games. It's asking a lot of fans to alter a game's time and day late.

The league has allowed Monday night games to be flexible, and now they want Weeks 14-17 Thursday night games to be too.

Despite the risks of playing on little rest, the league allowed clubs to play numerous Thursday night games during short weeks. Last season
